 Acupuncture FAQ

  • Acupuncture is a tool for balancing, addressing both internal and external symptoms. Our focus lies utilizing a blend of TCM & Five Element techniques to treat stress, anxiety, depression, women's health concerns, headaches, sciatica, chronic pain, fertility, pregnancy, and PTSD.

  • Your initial session spans an hour and a half, delving into your client intake form, followed by an acupuncture session. Subsequent treatments are one hour, building on our foundation, crafting a regimen tailored just for you.

  • Anticipate a slight pinch as the needles enter, but the true sensation is the awakening within, as the needles weave their energy through the meridians.

  • Fertility and Postpartum Acupuncture is a specialized form of acupuncture that supports reproductive health, conception, and postpartum recovery. For fertility, the goal is to enhance circulation to the reproductive organs, regulate hormones, and reduce stress. For postpartum care, acupuncture helps restore balance to the body after childbirth, promoting healing, reducing anxiety, improving milk production, and supporting emotional well-being. Sessions are typically tailored to individual needs during these important stages.

  • Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a natural, non-invasive method for improving the appearance of the skin. Fine needles are inserted into specific points on the face to stimulate circulation, boost collagen production, and improve skin tone and texture. This treatment can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging while promoting a more youthful, glowing complexion. It is sometimes referred to as “acupuncture facelifts” and is a great alternative to more invasive cosmetic procedures.

  • The Cupping & Gua Sha are a quick and effective treatment that combines two traditional therapies.

Cupping involves placing plastic cups on the skin to create suction, which helps increase circulation, reduce muscle tension, and promote relaxation.

Gua Sha involves scraping a flat tool along the skin to release tension and improve lymphatic drainage. This session is perfect for a quick reset to relieve muscle soreness, stress, and promote relaxation.

Together this treatment removes stagnation and promotes physiological healing.

  • 24k Ear Seeding is a form of acupuncture that uses small seeds or beads, often made of 24k gold, to stimulate acupuncture points on the ears. Ear seeding is a non-invasive method that can help with a wide variety of issues, including pain, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and cravings. The seeds are taped to specific points on the ears and can be gently massaged for continued relief. This treatment is often used for long-term benefits between acupuncture sessions, and can done individually or be added onto any acupuncture treatment.

  • We typically recommend starting with sessions every other week, beginning the journey at a gentle pace. Each client is distinct, so finding your rhythm is key.

  • Most Acupuncture points are found on the head, torso, back, arms, legs, hands, and feet. We recommend avoiding racerback bras and bringing shorts for your comfort.

If there's any area you'd rather not have treated, please share your preferences openly with us.

  • Certainly, we can. In Chinese Medicine, we seek patterns, not just diseases. This holistic approach allows us to treat the whole person, considering all symptoms and their interconnectedness in the body. By understanding the root causes and various factors at play, we address the source of discomfort, not merely the symptoms.tion

  • Acupuncture has been studied extensively, and research has shown that it can be effective for a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, anxiety, headaches, insomnia, and stress. Studies suggest that acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, release endorphins, and improve circulation. While more research is needed, many individuals report positive results in pain management, emotional well-being, and overall health when using acupuncture as part of a treatment plan.

  • Acupuncture stimulates specific points on the body that are believed to promote the flow of Qi (life energy) and support the body's natural healing processes. In the case of stress and anxiety, acupuncture helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, which controls stress responses. By balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, acupuncture can reduce the physical effects of stress, lower cortisol levels, and promote relaxation, helping clients feel calmer and more centered.

  • While acupuncture is generally safe for most people, there are certain conditions where it may need to be avoided or modified:

    • Pregnancy: Acupuncture can be used during pregnancy, but certain points may need to be avoided, especially in the early stages. Always inform your acupuncturist if you're pregnant.

    • Blood Disorders: If you have a bleeding disorder or are on blood thinners, acupuncture may require modification. Discuss your condition with your practitioner before starting treatment.

    • Severe health conditions: Individuals with serious health conditions, such as cancer or heart disease, should consult their doctor before undergoing acupuncture. Treatment may need to be adjusted based on specific health needs.

    • Infections: Avoid acupuncture on areas with active infections or open wounds.

    • Needle Sensitivity: If you have a fear of needles or are particularly sensitive, discuss this with your acupuncturist to adjust the treatment to your comfort level.

  • After an acupuncture session, it's important to stay hydrated and avoid any heavy physical activity for the rest of the day. Many people experience deep relaxation following acupuncture, so it’s best to take it easy. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and heavy meals immediately after the session, as these may interfere with the therapeutic effects. It’s also a good idea to rest and allow your body to process the treatment.

  • Currently, we accept payments in cash, checks, Venmo, Paypal, and most major credit cards, including HSA and Flexible Spending Accounts.

Himalayan Sound Therapy FAQ

  • Himalayan Sound Therapy is a healing technique that utilizes the resonant sounds and vibrations of Himalayan singing bowls to promote relaxation, balance, and wellness. These bowls are traditionally made from a blend of metals, and when played, they produce deep, harmonic sounds and vibrations that can help clear energetic blockages in the body, calm the mind, and bring about emotional and physical healing. The sound waves stimulate the body's cells and tissues, creating a deep sense of relaxation and enhancing energy flow.

  • Sound therapy can help reduce stress, improve sleep, ease anxiety, promote mental clarity, and encourage emotional healing. It can also support physical healing by helping to restore balance to the body's energy field, which may assist in alleviating chronic pain, headaches, and tension. Many people find it a powerful tool for mindfulness and personal growth.

  • The sound vibrations from the bowls stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a state of deep relaxation. These vibrations can help reset the body’s frequencies, leading to reduced stress, improved circulation, and enhanced energy flow. Research has shown that sound therapy can positively influence brainwave activity, bringing about a calm and meditative state that reduces stress and anxiety.

  • Studies have found that sound healing can have a positive impact on the nervous system, help lower cortisol (the stress hormone), and increase alpha brainwave activity associated with relaxation. Some research has also suggested that sound therapy can promote physical healing by improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, as well as reduce pain and muscle tension.

  • While sound therapy is generally safe, there are some individuals who may need to exercise caution or avoid the practice entirely:

    • Pregnancy: Pregnant women, especially in the early stages, should consult with their healthcare provider before undergoing sound therapy.

    • Severe mental health conditions: Those with conditions such as schizophrenia or certain forms of epilepsy may experience overstimulation from the sound vibrations, so a consultation with a mental health professional is recommended.

    • Severe heart conditions or pacemakers: People with severe heart conditions or implanted medical devices (like pacemakers) should seek medical advice before receiving sound therapy.

    • Recent surgeries or fractures: Sound therapy may not be suitable for individuals with recent surgery or fractures in areas that may be affected by vibrations.

  • While sound therapy is generally safe, some individuals may experience mild side effects, such as emotional releases or temporary dizziness. This can be part of the body's natural healing response to the vibrations. If you feel discomfort or unwell at any time during the session, inform your practitioner immediately. Most side effects are temporary and fade soon after the session.

  • Yes, sound therapy can complement other wellness practices, such as massage, meditation, acupuncture, or traditional medical treatments. However, it’s always a good idea to discuss with your healthcare provider if you are undergoing other treatments, particularly for chronic conditions or if you are pregnant.

  • After a sound therapy session, it's important to stay hydrated to help the body release toxins that may have been stirred up during the session. It's also recommended to rest, meditate, or engage in light activities to continue the relaxation process. Many people find that they feel more grounded and centered after the session, so allowing yourself some quiet time can enhance the benefits.

  • The frequency of sound therapy depends on your personal goals and well-being. For those dealing with chronic stress, pain, or emotional imbalances, regular sessions may be beneficial. For general relaxation and wellness, sessions can be spaced out once a month or as needed. Your practitioner will provide guidance based on your specific needs.

Integrative Bodywork FAQ

Our skilled practitioners will tailor each session to meet your specific needs.

  • Our 60/90 Minute Massage sessions are designed to relax and rejuvenate the body using a combination of techniques, such as Swedish massage, deep tissue, and trigger point therapy.

The session length allows for a customized approach, where we focus on areas of tension and discomfort, promoting relaxation and relief. You can choose the duration depending on your needs, whether you’re looking for a quick reset or a more comprehensive treatment.

  • Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, specialized massage technique aimed at stimulating the lymphatic system to improve circulation and remove toxins from the body. The lymphatic system plays a critical role in immune function and detoxification, and by promoting better fluid flow, this treatment can help reduce swelling, improve skin tone, and enhance overall wellness. It’s especially helpful for those who experience water retention, post-surgery recovery, or chronic inflammation.

  • TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Release is a technique that focuses on releasing tension and restoring balance in the jaw and surrounding muscles. If you suffer from jaw pain, clenching, grinding, headaches, or neck discomfort, this therapy can help alleviate discomfort and improve jaw mobility. The session targets the muscles of the jaw, neck, and face, using gentle manipulation to relieve tightness and promote healing.

  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping is a therapeutic technique that involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the body while focusing on emotional distress or physical discomfort. This modality helps to clear blockages in the body's energy system, reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional pain, and can be used to address both physical and emotional issues. It is especially effective for managing emotional well-being, trauma, or persistent physical symptoms related to stress.

  • Integrative Bodywork combines a variety of therapeutic techniques to address pain and stress from a holistic perspective. Techniques like deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage, and TMJ release work to release muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation, while approaches like EFT Tapping help to address emotional blockages or trauma that might be contributing to physical discomfort. The goal is to create an overall sense of relaxation and promote healing on multiple levels—physical, mental, and emotional.

  • Yes, Integrative Bodywork can complement other forms of therapy, including physical therapy, chiropractic care, and psychological treatment. Many clients find it helpful as part of a comprehensive wellness plan to reduce stress, improve mobility, and maintain overall health. However, if you are undergoing any medical treatments, we recommend consulting with your practitioner beforehand to ensure the combination is appropriate for your specific needs.

  • While Integrative Bodywork is generally safe, there are some conditions where certain modalities should be avoided or approached with caution. Please consult with your practitioner if you have any of the following:

    • Pregnancy: Certain bodywork techniques, especially deep tissue massage and lymphatic drainage, may not be suitable during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Always consult your healthcare provider before receiving bodywork during pregnancy.

    • Severe Health Conditions: Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as severe heart conditions, blood clotting disorders, or cancer, should seek medical advice before undergoing bodywork.

    • Acute injuries or inflammation: If you have an acute injury, inflammation, or active infection, we recommend avoiding deep tissue work and lymphatic drainage until you’ve fully recovered.

    • Recent surgeries: After surgery, particularly abdominal, joint, or spinal surgeries, always consult your doctor before engaging in massage or bodywork.

  • While bodywork therapies are generally safe, some clients may experience temporary soreness or fatigue after a session. This is often due to the release of built-up tension or toxins in the body. It is advisable to drink plenty of water after a session to help flush out toxins. If you experience any discomfort or persistent soreness, let your practitioner know so that future sessions can be adjusted to better meet your needs.

  • At this time, we do not accept insurance for payment. However, we do accept FSA (Flexible Spending Accounts) and HSA (Health Savings Accounts) as forms of payment. We can provide you with a detailed receipt for reimbursement, which can be submitted to your FSA/HSA provider. Please check with your FSA/HSA plan to ensure they cover the services you’re interested in.

  • After a bodywork session, it’s important to rest, hydrate, and allow your body time to adjust. Drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins and supports muscle recovery. If you had a more intense session, such as deep tissue or lymphatic drainage, you may feel a bit sore the next day—this is a normal part of the process and should subside in 1-2 days. Light stretching or yoga can also help to keep your body feeling loose and comfortable.

  • The frequency of bodywork sessions depends on your personal needs and wellness goals. If you're seeking relief from chronic pain or stress, regular sessions (once a week or bi-weekly) may be helpful. For general relaxation or occasional muscle tension, once a month may be sufficient. Your practitioner can help you determine the best schedule for your unique circumstances.

    • Recent surgeries: Women who have had recent pelvic or abdominal surgery should consult with their doctor before starting pelvic floor therapy.

    • Infections: If you have a urinary tract infection (UTI) or any other active pelvic infection, pelvic floor therapy should be postponed until the infection is resolved.

  • Both Sensual Coaching and Therapeutic Sacral Mapping are generally safe for most women, but it’s important to note:

    • Trauma-sensitive clients: If you have a history of sexual trauma or abuse, these practices may bring up challenging emotions. It's recommended to inform the practitioner so that the session can be tailored to your comfort level.

    • Pelvic health conditions: Women with pelvic health conditions, such as certain infections or cancer, should consult with a healthcare provider before undergoing sacral mapping or pelvic-related therapies.

For Sensual Coaching, you may find that periodic check-ins help support ongoing growth and empowerment. Your practitioner will help determine the best schedule for your unique circumstances.

Breathwork FAQ

  • Breathwork is a somatic practice that uses specific breathing techniques to help you feel more balanced and at ease. By focusing on your breath, you can tap into your body’s natural ability to heal, release tension, and explore your emotions. During a session, you might experience various feelings or sensations as you let go of stress and connect more deeply with yourself.

  • During a Breathwork session, you may experience a range of physical and emotional sensations. Common physical experiences include tingling, lightheadedness, or a sense of warmth as your body releases tension. Emotionally, some individuals experience deep emotional releases or feel a sense of clarity and calm after the session. It’s important to note that everyone’s experience with breathwork is unique, and there is no right or wrong way to feel.

  • The frequency of Breathwork sessions can vary depending on what you’re looking to achieve. For newcomers or those working through specific challenges, weekly or biweekly sessions might be helpful. As you progress, you can adjust the frequency based on what feels right for you and the benefits you notice.

  • While breathwork is generally safe for most people, there are certain conditions where it may need to be avoided or modified:

    • Severe Anxiety or Panic Disorders: For individuals with severe anxiety or panic disorders, some breathwork techniques (especially rapid or intense breathing) may trigger discomfort or panic. It's essential to inform the instructor of your condition so that a gentler approach can be taken.

    • Severe Respiratory Conditions: People with conditions like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other severe lung conditions should approach breathwork with caution. It’s best to consult with a healthcare provider before beginning breathwork.

    • Heart Conditions: Individuals with heart conditions or high blood pressure should consult their healthcare provider before engaging in certain breathwork practices, particularly those that involve intense breath retention or hyperventilation.

    • Pregnancy: Pregnant individuals should consult with a healthcare provider and the instructor before engaging in breathwork practices. Some techniques may need to be modified to ensure safety.

    • Epilepsy: Breathwork techniques involving intense or rapid breathing should be approached cautiously by individuals with epilepsy, as they may trigger a seizure in some cases.

  • Breathwork can offer many positive effects, such as reducing stress, improving emotional balance, and enhancing overall well-being. It helps you release stored emotions, gain clarity, and connect more deeply with yourself. Everyone’s experience is unique, and you might find different benefits as you explore the practice.

  • For in-person sessions, wearing comfortable clothes and staying hydrated is a good start. For virtual sessions, choose a quiet, comfortable spot where you can relax. You might want to have a blanket or pillow nearby and ensure you’re in a calm state of mind.

  • Breathwork has a profound impact on the nervous system, helping to regulate the autonomic nervous system (ANS). By consciously altering the breath, breathwork can shift the body from a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) response to a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state. This helps to reduce stress, lower heart rate, improve sleep quality, and enhance emotional stability. Regular breathwork practice has been shown to lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, while increasing levels of endorphins, leading to an overall sense of well-being.

  • Numerous studies suggest that breathwork techniques, particularly those that involve deep, diaphragmatic, or controlled breathing, can significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Breathwork has been shown to enhance mood, improve emotional regulation, reduce blood pressure, and increase feelings of calmness. Research has also indicated that breath-focused practices can improve sleep quality, mental clarity, and focus, making it an effective tool for both emotional and physical health.

  • After a Breathwork session, you may feel deeply relaxed, lightheaded, or even emotionally stirred. It’s important to stay hydrated and take some time to rest. Some people like to journal or reflect on the emotions and sensations that came up during the session. Avoid overstimulating activities (like intense exercise or caffeine) immediately afterward to allow your body to integrate the experience. If you feel particularly emotional, it’s okay to take time for yourself to process the experience.

  • The frequency of Breathwork sessions depends on your goals and needs. For stress management or emotional healing, weekly or bi-weekly sessions may be beneficial. For peak performance or ongoing well-being, monthly sessions may be enough. Your instructor can help you create a plan that works best for your personal goals.

    • Severe heart conditions or respiratory issues: If you have severe cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, some OT activities, especially those that require exertion, may need to be adapted.

    • Active infections: For the safety of all clients, therapy may need to be postponed if you have an active infection or fever.

    • Acute injuries or fractures: In the case of fresh fractures, surgery, or acute injuries, therapy should be tailored to avoid putting stress on healing areas.

    • Pelvic Floor Therapy contraindications: Pelvic floor therapy may not be suitable for individuals with certain types of pelvic cancers, severe pelvic organ prolapse, or untreated infections. Always consult your doctor if you have a health condition that affects the pelvic region.

    • Pregnancy considerations: For certain treatments, especially pelvic floor therapy or activities that involve significant physical movement, pregnant individuals should consult with their doctor to ensure the therapy is safe.

  • After an OT session, it’s important to follow any recommendations your therapist provides, which may include specific exercises, stretches, or lifestyle adjustments. You may feel a bit sore or fatigued, especially after activities that target muscle strength or range of motion. Rest and hydration are key. If your session involved pelvic floor therapy, you may be advised to avoid strenuous physical activity for a short period to allow the muscles to rest and recover.

  • The frequency of OT sessions depends on your personal needs and goals. For individuals with ongoing concerns, such as chronic pain, pelvic health issues, or those undergoing gender affirming care, weekly sessions may be beneficial initially. Afterward, the frequency may decrease as you make progress. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that aligns with your goals and recovery.
